White House Press Secretary Dodges Question About VP Harris’ Handling of U.S.-Mexico Border
During the press briefing on Wednesday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about Vice President Kamala Harris’ handling of the U.S.-Mexico border. However, Jean-Pierre dodged the question and instead focused on the partnership between President Joe Biden and Harris.
Deployment of Active Duty Troops to the Border
President Biden’s administration recently deployed 1,500 active duty troops to the border ahead of the expected May 11 expiration of Title 42. This Trump-era policy allowed for the expulsion of nearly two million migrants on the basis of preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Reporter Asks About VP Harris’ Handling of Root Causes of Migration
During the press briefing, EWTN White House reporter Toby Capion asked Jean-Pierre about VP Harris’ handling of the root causes of migration in Central America. However, Jean-Pierre refused to give a report card or grade and instead emphasized the partnership between Biden and Harris.
“So I’ve learned from my predecessor [Jen Psaki] to never fall into that trap of giving grades,” Jean-Pierre responded. “What we can say from here is that the president appreciates and has been very impressed by her partnership in this administration. He sees her as a partner and they will continue to work in that way as we move forward.”
