Georgia recruit Jamaal Jarrett faces backlash for racist comment towards child at NFL Draft.

Georgia Football Recruit Jamaal Jarrett Under Fire for Racist Remark During NFL Draft Livestream

Four-star defensive tackle recruit Jamaal Jarrett is facing backlash on Twitter after making a racist remark during a livestream of the NFL Draft last week. When an Asian child was brought up to announce the Falcons’ eighth pick, Jarrett said, “C’mon you Asian ching chong.” The comment was heard by many, and now football fans are calling for an apology.

Twitter Users React

One Twitter user called for Jarrett to be suspended and issue a public apology. Others went further, saying that his behavior was typical of University of Georgia athletes. YouTuber John Matrixx also weighed in, calling Jarrett’s comment “pretty dumb.”

The Context of the Comment

Jarrett made the remark during a livestream of the draft on his Instagram account while anticipating that the Falcons would draft fellow Georgia Bulldog Jalen Carter. Carter has been accused and charged in a reckless driving incident that led to the death of a fellow player and team staffer. Carter was eventually picked up by the Eagles with the No. 9 pick.

As if the situation couldn’t get any worse, the child that Jarrett made the comment towards lost his father several years ago to brain cancer and was there as part of an opportunity given to him by the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America program.

Should Jarrett Apologize?

What is your take on the situation? Do you think Jarrett should issue an apology to the child? Let us know in the comments.
