POTUS Enters Reelection Campaign with Hefty Misogynist Baggage

President Joe Biden recently launched his reelection campaign, but he’s already facing some serious baggage in the post-#MeToo era. According to Politico, Biden is considering hiring T.J. Ducklo, a confirmed misogynist, for a senior communications role on his campaign. Ducklo was forced to resign from his position as deputy press secretary in the Biden White House earlier this year after threatening to “destroy” a female reporter. He also has ties to notorious sex pests like Chris Dodd, Mark Halperin, and Matt Lauer.

Concerns from Democrats

Many Democrats are concerned that rehiring an abusive aide like Ducklo would send a terrible message. Michael LaRosa, former press secretary for first lady Jill Biden, told Politico, “It’s hard to believe that in the post-#MeToo, anti-bullying world we live in, that the president’s team would be this tone-deaf.” LaRosa added, “Hiring former personnel who embarrassed and humiliated him in his first three weeks in office and created an unnecessary distraction in the briefing room and for the first family feels counterintuitive to me.”

Biden’s close aide and confidante, Anita Dunn, also gave “damage control” advice to Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood mogul and prominent Democratic donor who will spend the rest of his life in prison for rape and sexual assault. Additionally, Biden himself has a long history of inappropriately touching people of all genders and age groups.

The #MeToo Era

While the #MeToo movement brought attention to issues of sexual harassment and assault, it seems to have lost its momentum. In April 2020, former Senate aide Tara Reade accused then-candidate Biden of sexual assault, which was far more credible than Christine Blasey Ford’s allegation against then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh in 2018. However, journalists were obligated to revise their “believe all women” mantra because Biden was the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee in a race against Donald Trump.

Conclusion

Biden is attempting to become the oldest president credibly accused of sexual assault to win reelection. With his history of inappropriate behavior and the potential hiring of a confirmed misogynist, it remains to be seen how voters will respond in the 2024 election.
