FIFA’s Infantino urges Kyrgyzstan to construct a stadium.

FIFA President Urges Kyrgyzstan to Build National Football Stadium

During his visit to Kyrgyzstan, FIFA President Gianni Infantino called on the country to build a national football stadium that meets international standards. Currently, the former Soviet republic lacks modern stadiums capable of hosting FIFA-level matches, and its national team’s FIFA ranking has fluctuated between positions 201 and 75, currently standing at 96th.

On the day of Infantino’s visit, the Kyrgyz Football Union inaugurated its new FIFA-sponsored headquarters, which replaces an old, small building on the outskirts of the capital, Bishkek.

Investing in Kyrgyzstan’s Football Future

Infantino spoke with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov about the importance of building a national football stadium, saying, “It is very important, symbolic, but crucial for the development, so, we will bring more international games to Kyrgyzstan, and you will shine on the Asian stage and on the global stage.”

Japarov, whose team won a friendly game against FIFA officials, said that football is the most popular sport in Kyrgyzstan and that the country has ambitious goals. Infantino praised the country’s football talent, saying, “Kyrgyzstan has great, great talents. The men’s football team qualified two times in a row for the Asian cup. In 2019, excellent tournament..,”

FIFA is investing in Kyrgyzstan’s football future by deploying a talent development team and investing in a football academy and programs to promote the sport in schools and among women.
