Biden’s DOJ targets Trump’s LIV Golf papers.

The Department of Justice Subpoenas Trump Organization for Documents Related to LIV Golf

The Department of Justice has subpoenaed the Trump Organization for documents related to former President Donald Trump’s dealings with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf as the department ramps up its investigation into classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago.

According to the New York Times, “It is unclear what bearing Mr. Trump’s relationship with LIV Golf has on the broader investigation, but it suggests that the prosecutors are examining certain elements of Mr. Trump’s family business.”

Controversy Surrounding LIV Golf

LIV Golf was founded in 2021, the year Trump left the White House. Trump welcomed the golf tournament to his Bedminster, New Jersey course in July of 2022, as well as his Dorsal, Florida course in October of the same year, the Daily Mail reported. Last year saw relatives of those who died on 9/11 to the events, who expressed their anger over Trump welcoming the Saudi-backed tournament.

In 2023, Trump will bring the LIV tour to his DC course on May 26 to 28, his Bedminster course from August 11 to 13, and his Doral course from October 20 to 22.

Trump has defended his decision to host the Saudi-backed tournament, saying in 2022 that he has no problem supporting the breakaway tour and that Saudi officials are “good people with unlimited money” and that the US has “human rights issues here as much as anybody.”

With these bottomless funds, the tour is luring some of the best golf players in the world from the well-known PGA tour. Those who have left the PGA said the organization has disrespected them, while those who decide to stay say the PGA must be protected.

Eric Trump’s Statement

In a statement, Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organization, said the organization is “honored to be hosting three LIV Golf events at our properties” in 2023, according to the Daily Mail. “What LIV Golf accomplished in their first season was truly remarkable, and we are excited to raise the bar even higher together in 2023,” Eric Trump added.

Subpoenaed Records and Mar-a-Lago Employees

The news of the subpoenaed records comes as the Justice Department has obtained the cooperation of a person who worked for Trump at Mar-a-Lago as part of an investigation into whether he tried to hide documents from the department last May after they issued a subpoena, the New York Times reports.

“The witness is said to have provided investigators with a picture of the storage room where the material had been held. Little else is known about what prosecutors might have learned from the witness or when the witness first began to provide information to the prosecutors,” the outlet reported.

In the past weeks, at least four Mar-a-Lago employees have been subpoenaed. Two people told the outlet that nearly everyone who works at Mar-a-Lago has been subpoenaed, including those who worked in obscure jobs.
