Trump’s attempt to transfer Bragg hush money case to federal court gets hearing date.
Former President Trump’s Bid to Move Criminal Case to Federal Court to be Heard Next Month
Former President Donald Trump’s legal team has filed a motion to move the New York criminal case against him to federal court, citing “important federal questions” related to his conduct while in office. The hearing for Trump’s bid is scheduled for June 27, with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office given until June 15 to respond.
The Case Against Trump
Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments made during his 2016 campaign to conceal allegations of an affair with porn star Stormy Daniels. Bragg’s case accuses Trump of orchestrating a “catch and kill” scheme to bury negative stories about him during the 2016 presidential cycle.
What’s Next?
The case is set to begin early next year, with Trump and Bragg’s office ordered to pick a trial date last week. In the meantime, proceedings may continue in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, New York County, while Trump’s motion waits to be heard in court.
Other Legal Battles
Bragg’s case against Trump in New York is just one of many legal battles the former president is facing. On Tuesday, a jury ordered Trump to pay E. Jean Carroll $5 million in damages after finding him responsible for sexual abuse and defamation. However, the jury did not hold Trump liable for rape.
