Bud Light boycott grows, hurts other Anheuser-Busch brands.
Fall-out from Bud Light’s Partnership with Transgender Influencer
The recent partnership between Bud Light and transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney has caused a stir, and it seems that the fall-out is now spilling over and negatively affecting other Anheuser-Busch brands. According to a report, Bud Light retail sales were down 23.4% when compared to data analysis of late April last year.
Other Brands Affected
But it’s not just Bud Light that’s suffering. Fresh data from Bump Williams Consulting and NielsenIQ now show sales of other brands under the Anheuser-Busch beer umbrella have begun to spiral downward. “It’s not just a Bud Light issue,” says Bump Williams, the data consultant chief executive. “It’s an Anheuser-Busch portfolio problem now.”
- Budweiser sales dropped 11.4% during the week ending on April 29
- Sales of Bud’s Michelob Ultra beer brand took a 4.4% hit
- Smaller Anheuser-Busch brands, Natural Light and Busch Light, were also down with 5.2% and 1.8% drops, respectively
Total Anheuser-Busch beer volumes fell 12.5% in the month of April as brands such as Molson Coors and Constellation Brands capitalized with respective 7.6% and 3.8% increases, according to Beer Business Daily. Among the United State’s top 10 beers year to date, Bud Light and Budweiser are the only two to experience sales drops.
Winning Back Angry Customers
Anheuser-Busch is hoping to win back its angry customer base with a free case of Bud Light. Will it be enough to turn things around? Only time will tell.
