Scared MLB Star Won’t Stay with Team at ‘Haunted’ Hotel.
MLB Superstar Mookie Betts Avoids Haunted Hotel
Major League Baseball superstar Mookie Betts is making headlines for his decision to stay at an Airbnb instead of the reputedly haunted Pfister Hotel during the Dodgers’ three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Betts has heard stories from fellow former MVP Bryce Harper and others about strange occurrences in the 130-year-old downtown building and doesn’t want any angry spirits throwing him off his game.
Paranormal Encounters at the Pfister Hotel
According to MLB.com, a host of players and coaches have stories about paranormal encounters at the luxury hotel. Harper told ESPN The Magazine of a chilling episode during his rookie year when he played for the Washington Nationals. Before going to bed, he had carefully laid out his clothes on a table, he recounted.
“When I woke up in the morning — I swear on everything — the clothes were on the floor and the table was on the opposite side of the room against the wall,” Harper said. “I was so flustered. I honestly thought there might be someone in my room. I had no idea what the hell just happened, so I actually looked around, and then I checked to see if the door was still latched, and it was.”
Onetime Texas Rangers star Michael Young claims that in 2013, he was awakened by a spirit stomping around in his room. He told ESPN he told the ghost “he was welcome, that we could be pals, that he could marinate in there for as long as he needed to, just as long as he didn’t wake me up.”
Other notable players who have told creepy tales about their stays at the Pfister include former third-baseman Adrian Beltre, ex-St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martínez, and former Pittsburgh Pirates and Colorado Rockies Manager Clint Hurdle.
Former outfielder Carlos Gomez told the New York Post back in 2009 he flat-out refused to stay at the Pfister.
“I’m scared to go there,” Gomez said. “They should change the hotel. Everybody here doesn’t like the hotel. Why they always put us in the same hotel when you can’t sleep?”
Betts’ Decision Pays Off
Betts’ decision to avoid the Pfister Hotel may have helped him focus at the plate. The 2018 MVP led off the Dodgers’ 6-2 victory Tuesday with a home run.
