Special Counsel John Durham Finds DOJ and FBI Lacked Evidence for Trump-Russia Probe

Special Counsel John Durham has released a report stating that the Department of Justice and the FBI did not have sufficient evidence to launch their 2016 investigation into the Donald Trump campaign called “Crossfire Hurricane” over alleged collusion with Russia. Durham’s report also revealed that senior FBI personnel lacked analytical rigor towards information received from politically affiliated persons and entities, which contributed to the subsequent need for Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation.
The House Intelligence Committee discovered that the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign funded the creation of the Steele dossier, which the FBI and DOJ used to obtain FISA warrants to spy on members of Trump’s campaign. Durham’s report stated that the Department did not adequately examine or question these materials and the motivations of those providing them.
Former FBI Director James Comey and former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe were also referenced in Durham’s report. President Donald Trump reacted to Durham’s findings, stating that the American public was scammed and that there must be a heavy price to pay for putting the country through this.
Do you think more must be done to clean out the DOJ and FBI?
Durham indicted three people during his investigation: former Clinton attorney Michael Sussmann, Democratic political operative Igor Danchenko, and former FBI attorney Kevin Clinesmith. Sussmann and Danchenko were found not guilty in their trials, while Clinesmith pleaded guilty in August 2020 to changing information on a FISA warrant application.
The FBI reacted to Durham’s report with a statement, stating that the conduct in 2016 and 2017 that Special Counsel Durham examined was the reason that current FBI leadership already implemented dozens of corrective actions, which have now been in place for some time.
