Rep. Adam Schiff maintains Trump-Russia conspiracy despite Durham report discrediting FBI probe.
Rep. Adam Schiff Accuses Trump Campaign of Collusion with Russian Intelligence
California Democrat Doubts Durham Report’s Conclusion
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif), former Chairman of the House Select Committee on Intelligence and current candidate for California’s Democratic senator, remains convinced that members of former President Donald Trump’s campaign conspired with Russian intelligence operatives to steal the 2016 election against Hillary Clinton. Schiff is unswayed by the recently released Durham Report, which concluded that there was no collusion between Trump and Russia.
When asked by The Epoch Times about the report’s findings and whether he still stood by his claims, Schiff replied, “If you read Mr. Durham’s report, what he said is that there wasn’t evidence of collusion before they began the investigation. That’s obviously a very important distinction.”
Schiff then pointed to “secret meetings” between Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and a Russian intelligence agent, accusing Manafort of providing the agent with internal polling data and strategy for key battleground states while Russian intelligence was trying to help Trump win. Schiff claimed that this looked like “plain collusion” to most Americans.
However, the Durham Report contradicts Schiff’s claims, stating that the FBI’s top expert on Russian intelligence found no evidence of such collusion. The report also notes that Manafort was convicted on unrelated charges of tax and bank fraud.
Schiff also accused Donald Trump Jr. of being closely connected with Russian intelligence, citing a meeting arranged by the Russians to offer dirt on the Democratic candidate for president. Schiff claimed that rather than refuse the offer, Trump Jr. said they would love it. However, the Durham Report only mentions Trump Jr. once in a lengthy footnote.
Key Points:
- Schiff accuses Trump campaign of collusion with Russian intelligence
- Durham Report concludes there was no evidence of collusion
- Schiff points to “secret meetings” between Manafort and Russian intelligence agent
- Durham Report contradicts Schiff’s claims
- Schiff accuses Trump Jr. of being closely connected with Russian intelligence
- Durham Report only mentions Trump Jr. once in a lengthy footnote
Despite the Durham Report’s findings, Schiff remains convinced that there was collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian intelligence. However, the report’s conclusions and lack of evidence suggest otherwise. It remains to be seen how Schiff’s claims will impact his campaign for California’s Democratic senator.
