US Convoy Attacked, Four Nigerians Dead.
Tragic Attack on U.S. Government Convoy in Nigeria
At least four Nigerians killed in the attack
On Tuesday, a convoy of two U.S. government vehicles was attacked in Nigeria, resulting in the deaths of at least four Nigerian nationals. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed the attack, but stated that it did not appear to be directed at the U.S. mission in Nigeria.
Blinken released a statement on Wednesday, expressing his condolences to the families of those killed and pledging to do everything possible to safely recover those who remain missing. He also stated that the U.S. mission and its Nigerian counterparts are working together to determine the location and condition of those unaccounted for.
The convoy was carrying five U.S. mission employees and four members of the Nigeria Police Force. They were en route to a U.S.-funded flood response project in Nigeria’s Anambra state when the attack occurred.
Working to Bring Those Responsible to Justice
Blinken condemned the attack in the strongest terms and vowed to work closely with Nigerian law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice. He emphasized that the safety and security of U.S. personnel is of the utmost importance.
Our thoughts are with the families of those affected by this tragedy.
