Cruz claims Biden’s Russia-Ukraine policy is hindered by prioritizing the Iran nuclear deal.

Sen. Ted Cruz Criticizes Biden Administration’s Approach to Russia-Ukraine Conflict

On May 17, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) spoke out against the Biden administration’s handling of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. According to Cruz, the administration’s goal of achieving a nuclear deal with Iran is clouding their approach to the situation.

The Background

Since last year, the United States and Iran have been engaged in indirect nuclear talks, which have been indefinitely suspended. The U.S. withdrew from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action under the Trump administration, and sanctions were reinstated on Tehran.

The Issue

Cruz cited an incident from last year, where Ukraine requested army tactical missile systems to attack Russia’s base in Crimea. The base was testing kamikaze drones given to them by Iran. However, the Biden administration rejected the request, claiming that the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) they provided wouldn’t be able to launch rockets far enough to hit the base.

The Controversy

Cruz believes that the administration’s excuse is easily disprovable, as anyone with access to Google Maps can see that it’s a lie. He argues that the real reason for the rejection is the presence of Iranian drones in the area.

  • Cruz accuses the Biden administration of prioritizing a nuclear deal with Iran over the safety and security of Ukraine.
  • He believes that the administration’s approach is misguided and puts the U.S. and its allies at risk.
  • Cruz’s criticism highlights the ongoing tensions between the U.S., Russia, and Iran, and the complex geopolitical landscape in the region.

As the situation continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how the Biden administration will navigate the conflict and its relationships with Iran and Russia.
