Parents won’t take kids to school due to adult migrant housing plan.
Outrage as New York City Plans to House Adult Migrants in School Gym
Backlash from Concerned Parents
New York City officials had planned to house 75 asylum seekers in a school gym at P.S. 188 in Coney Island, but the idea was met with fierce opposition from parents and community members. The plan was eventually shelved after parents expressed concerns about the safety of their children.
Unacceptable Solution
New York City Councilman Ari Kagan stated that the school community wanted the adult migrants out before they ever arrived. He added that transforming the school gym into a processing center with a revolving door for new migrants was not an acceptable solution. Principal and parents wanted to see the school gym returned to the children of Coney Island.
Dangerous to Students
Mona Davids of the New York City School Safety Coalition criticized the plan as dangerous to students. She expressed concerns about unvetted, foreign nationals, migrants coming from all over the world. “We don’t know anything about them. We don’t know their background, we don’t know what they’re capable of.”
Fears of Pedophiles and Kidnappers
Another parent quoted by CBS News expressed fears that “pedophiles” could infiltrate the school grounds. They added that there could be people trying to kidnap their kids, and they could have weapons, drugs, or anything. One angry parent even refused to bring their children back to the campus with the migrant plan in place.
City Backs Off Plan
City officials were eyeing three other schools for housing migrants until public opposition halted the idea. Kagan later indicated that the city was backing off of the plan to house migrants in the school, while leaving the possibility open.
New York City, which advertises itself as a “sanctuary city” for illegal aliens, has been inundated with asylum seekers throughout President Joe Biden’s tenure.
