Ferrari resists pressure to ditch combustion engine.
Ferrari Stands Firm Against Pressure to Abandon Combustion Engines
Luxury sports carmaker Ferrari has announced that it will continue to manufacture its vehicles with internal combustion engines heading into the late 2030s, despite global pressure to phase out such engines in favor of electric vehicles. The company’s CEO, Benedetto Vigna, has stated that it is “arrogant” to dictate to consumers what they can and cannot purchase. While Ferrari’s first-ever electric supercar is expected to premiere in 2025, the company will continue to build and develop internal combustion engines, which it describes as an “essential part of the company’s heritage.”
Unique Driving Experience
Ferrari’s upcoming electric supercar will offer a “unique driving experience,” according to the Italian car maker. However, rival brand McLaren has claimed that the weight of electric batteries makes the technology for electric supercars “not ready” for use.
Client Choice
Vigna has emphasized that it is up to the client to choose whether they want an internal combustion engine, a hybrid, or an electric car. Ferrari’s decision to continue producing vehicles with internal combustion engines has been made possible by a loophole enacted by the European Union in March, which allows an exemption for a mandate that would see all new cars in the EU be zero-emission by 2035.
Propulsion Options
Ferrari’s decision to offer three kinds of propulsion — internal combustion engines, hybrids, and electric vehicles — allows the company to comply with regulations all over the world, according to Vigna.
Despite the pressure to abandon internal combustion engines, Ferrari remains committed to its heritage and to offering its clients a choice in the type of vehicle they purchase.
