Biden: Zelenskyy Promises Not to Use F-16s in Russia
President Biden Assured Ukraine Will Not Use F-16s in Russian Territory
Beneficial Move for American Security and Prosperity
President Joe Biden recently met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the G-7 summit in Hiroshima. During the meeting, Zelenskyy personally assured Biden that Ukraine would not use Western-supplied F-16s in Russian territory. Biden announced that the United States, together with its allies and partners, will begin training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter aircraft to strengthen Ukraine’s Air Force.
This move is beneficial to “the security and prosperity of the American people,” according to Biden. The US allies in Europe praised the decision, with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak calling it “welcome.” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz echoed the sentiment, saying that the project has a message for Russia: “Russia cannot count on winning if it bets on a long war.”
New $375 Million Aid Package to Ukraine
Biden also announced a new $375 million aid package to Ukraine, including ammunition, artillery, and armored vehicles. However, Russia warned that the West would be taking “enormous risks” by furnishing Ukraine with F-16s and vowed to shoot down any US jets in Ukrainian airspace.
Asked about these comments, Biden said that the jets are “a risk for them [the Russians], not for us.” This move shows the United States’ long-term commitment to Ukraine’s ability to defend itself and build a future of greater economic strength and resilience in a world that is more peaceful and stable.
