McCarthy anticipates FBI to disclose Biden bribery claims file.

GOP-Led House Pushes FBI for Alleged Bribery File on President Biden

The GOP-led House may have reached a breakthrough in its standoff with the FBI over a file believed to contain bribery allegations concerning President Joe Biden.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) revealed on “Sunday Morning Futures” that he spoke with Director Christopher Wray about the FBI failing to comply with a subpoena for the document and pushed for compliance.

Pushing for Compliance

“I explained to the director that we will do everything in our power, and we have jurisdiction over the FBI, that we have the right to see this document,” McCarthy said during an appearance on Fox News. “I believe after this call we will get this document.”

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) issued a subpoena with a May 10 deadline seeking the document. GOP investigators say whistleblower disclosures indicate there is a form filled out by the FBI that describes an alleged influence peddling scheme involving Biden, dating back to his time as vice president, and a foreign national.

FBI Response

In its response on the day of the deadline, an FBI official declined to acknowledge the existence of the record while warning against the release of “unverified or incomplete” information that could “harm investigations, prejudice prosecutions or judicial proceedings, unfairly violate privacy or reputational interests, or create misimpressions in the public.”

Although acting Assistant Director for Congressional Affairs Christopher Dunham, who wrote the response, also expressed a commitment to continue working with lawmakers to resolve the matter, Comer seemed unsatisfied.

Democrats Accuse GOP

Democrats have accused their GOP counterparts of ignoring alleged misconduct by former President Donald Trump while trying to dig up “dirt” on the Biden family. The White House has also shot back at Republicans in Congress. “House Republicans have shown no evidence of any policy decisions influenced by anything other than U.S. national interests,” tweeted White House spokesperson Ian Sams on Wednesday. “That’s because they can’t.”

What’s Next?

The GOP-led House is pushing for compliance from the FBI over a file believed to contain bribery allegations concerning President Joe Biden. With the deadline passed, it remains to be seen what the next steps will be in this ongoing standoff.

  • Will the FBI comply with the subpoena and release the document?
  • Will the House take further action to enforce the subpoena?
  • What impact will this have on the ongoing political divide between Democrats and Republicans?
