Conway: Trump welcomes growing GOP primary field.
Kellyanne Conway: More GOP Candidates Benefit Trump’s Re-Election Bid
Former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway believes that the growing list of GOP presidential candidates will work in favor of former President Donald Trump’s re-election bid.
Who’s Running?
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), former South Carolina governor and United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, political newcomer Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson have all declared their 2024 election bids.
Conway dismissed concerns about a crowded Republican primary field, stating that “the more, the merrier is probably Donald Trump’s anthem.” She added that Trump is currently the front-runner, beating his closest competitor, Ron DeSantis, in national polling.
According to recent polls, Trump holds a favorability lead over DeSantis by a margin of 53.5% to 20.8%. Conway also noted that Trump is set to benefit from the number of “winner takes all” Republican primary states, which have increased from seven in 2016 to 17 in 2024.
Conway suggested that the only strategy for beating Trump is to run against him “hammer and tong, square on,” or not run at all because too many candidates will dilute the field.
Aside from the current GOP primary field, Conway believes that the Republican Party has a “very deep and strong bench,” making the outlook hopeful even ahead to 2028.
