400 teens caused chaos, military celebration canceled.
Chicago Suburb Cancels Military Carnival Due to Teen Mob
A family-themed carnival honoring the military was canceled in a Chicago suburb after a mob of teenagers caused chaos at the event. The Village of Tinsley Park Public Safety announced on Facebook that the final day of the Armed Forces Weekend Carnival was canceled due to safety concerns. The post explained that around 400 teenagers responded to a call on social media to form a flash mob and began running through the parking lot and fighting with each other, causing chaos and disrupting the event. One police officer was injured but was released from the hospital after treatment. Five teenagers were issued citations for fighting in public, and no shots were fired during the incident.
Teenagers “Acting a Fool”
Michael Salerno of Windy City Amusements said, “The kids were just acting a fool. It’s a shame. Everyone was enjoying themselves.” Park Village Manager Pat Carr said that village officials believed Sunday’s closing day of the carnival had been targeted. Carr said that the village will not give up holding events such as the carnival in the future. Taniyla Smith, who never got to go on the rides when her family showed up on Sunday only to find the day’s fun was canceled, said, “I feel very mad because I wanted to go to the carnival, and they passed out tickets to my whole school.”
Message to the Teen Mob
Fayth Mudada wanted to send a message to those whose actions led to the cancellation. “Do better because you caused everyone who came here to not have fun,” Mudada said.
