Utah Mayor Trent Staggs Launches Bid for Senate Seat Held by Mitt Romney

Are you tired of Washington politics? So is Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs. That’s why he’s launching a bid for the U.S. Senate seat held by Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah). In his announcement video, Staggs criticized Romney for his positions and vowed to represent Utah in Congress.

Staggs is the first major Republican to launch a campaign for the Senate seat in the red state. Romney has filed paperwork preparing for a run, but has not made a final decision on a 2024 reelection campaign.

Why Staggs is Running

  • Washington is broken
  • Compromise costs trillions
  • More IRS agents than border agents
  • Unchecked money sent to Ukraine
  • $4 a gallon for gas
  • Almost $32 trillion in debt

Staggs also highlighted how he stood up during the COVID-19 pandemic against a mask mandate. He opposed mandating masks and instead encouraged residents to do the right thing. Staggs lost the race for Salt Lake County’s mayor to a Democrat, but he remains committed to pushing back on government overreach.
