Mississippi ready for liberal change, says Stacey Abrams.
Stacey Abrams Sets Her Sights on Mississippi for a Democratic Takeover
Twice-failed gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams is not one to shy away from a challenge. She has now set her sights on Mississippi, a state that has traditionally been a Republican stronghold. Abrams, a liberal activist, believes that Mississippi is ripe for a Democratic takeover and is ready to help make it happen.
During a recent appearance on MSNBC, Abrams was asked which Southern state is “ripest for the sort of transformation you helped accomplish in Georgia.” Without hesitation, she identified Mississippi. Abrams is confident that the upcoming elections in Mississippi will be exciting and is eager to get involved.
Abrams’s Involvement in the Race
Brandon Presley, the Democratic challenger, has positioned himself as a bipartisan populist. However, Abrams’s involvement in the race could tarnish that image. She co-chaired a liberal group that works to defund police and joined the board of a far-left foundation that funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars to communist academics who advocate for the abolition of prisons and private property. Abrams also serves as general counsel for environmental group Rewiring America, which has long pushed to eliminate oil and gas from America’s economy.
Can Presley Pull Off an Upset?
Presley has attracted excitement from national Democrats, who believe that he could pull off a shock upset in a state that backed former president Donald Trump by 16 points in 2020. However, if Presley is anything like Abrams, that excitement will fizzle into a disappointing Election Day showing.
Abrams’s Political Campaigns
Abrams’s high-profile political campaigns have thus far ended in defeat. In 2018, she ran for governor against Republican Brian Kemp and lost by 1.5 points. Abrams challenged Kemp again in 2022, raising a record $113 million, but fell to Kemp by an even larger 7.5-point margin. Despite her losses, state and national Democrats credit Abrams with transforming Georgia’s electorate.
Abrams’s Success as a Romance Novelist
While Abrams’s political campaigns have not been successful, she has found success as a romance novel author. Under the pen name Selena Montgomery, Abrams has published several books, including Rules of Engagement, The Art of Desire, and Power of Persuasion. In 2021, she inked a deal to reissue her first three romance titles.
