Fetterman’s disregard for Senate dress code signals recovery from depression, says AP.

Senator Fetterman’s Unconventional Style Sparks Controversy

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) has been making headlines lately, not just for his political views, but for his unconventional style. After winning his race in November, Fetterman began his term in the Senate, but six weeks later, he checked himself into a hospital to get treatment for depression. The 53-year-old had suffered a serious stroke over the summer, which badly affected his mental capacity and hearing.

Despite his absence, Fetterman’s relaxed and comfortable style has been the subject of much debate. The Associated Press recently reported that Fetterman is doing great, citing his hoodie and shorts as a sign of his robust recovery. However, some critics argue that his attire is unprofessional and disrespectful to the Senate.

Rules or No Rules?

The dress code in Congress isn’t formally in any rule book, but male senators are expected to wear a jacket and tie on the Senate floor. Fetterman, however, often casts his votes from the doorway of the Democratic cloakroom or the side entrance, and when he’s not on the Senate floor, he wears his hoodies and shorts. Democrats seem to be fine with Fetterman flouting the dress code, but others say the rules are the rules.

  • Conservative comedian Tim Young wrote on Twitter: “John Fetterman’s attire in the Senate perfectly summarizes Democrats lack of respect for Americans and our institutions.”
  • Another user tweeted: “Voting from the doorway of the Senate chamber because you won’t give up your clown outfit (shorts/hoodie) is unprofessional and an insult to PA voters! Resign NOW and let the voters select a better Senator.”

Despite the controversy, Fetterman’s supporters say that his attire is a non-issue and that he should be judged on his policies and actions, not his clothing.

Speech Issues

But Fetterman’s attire isn’t the only thing that’s been causing controversy. Fox News Digital recently reported that Fetterman’s staff sometimes clean up his quotes from the Senate floor to make him sound less incoherent. This has raised concerns about his ability to perform his job effectively.

While Fetterman’s unconventional style may be divisive, it’s clear that he’s not afraid to be himself. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing is up for debate.
