Loretta Lynn’s daughters talk about her final project after her death.
Remembering Loretta Lynn: Her Final Project
Country music legend Loretta Lynn may have passed away in October 2022, but her legacy lives on through her music and her final project. During a recent appearance on the “Today” show, Lynn’s twin daughters, Peggy Lynn and Patsy Lynn Russell, spoke out for the first time since their mother’s death and shared details about her book, “A Song and A Prayer: 30 Devotions Inspired by My Favorite Songs.”
The book combines both devotionals and lyrics from Lynn’s songs as a “unique form of worship,” according to the book’s description on Amazon. Peggy and Patsy worked together to ensure that their mother’s final project was released, and they shared memories of their time with her on the show.

Host Hoda Kotb asked the sisters how they were coping with their mother’s passing and what they did on Mother’s Day to honor her memory. Peggy revealed that she baked her mom’s homemade banana pudding for the family, saying, “When all else failed, that’s what we could get her to eat.” Patsy added that surrounding themselves with family on difficult days helped them get through the tough times.
The sisters also spoke about their mother’s strong faith and the messages she shared in her book. “No matter what faith people have in their lives, my mom was a strong believer,” Patsy said. “It gave us hope to see her again and for her to know that she’s going to see us again.”
Loretta Lynn’s Legacy
Lynn’s impact on the country music industry is undeniable. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1988 and is best known for her 1970 hit “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” Peggy shared that her mother was still writing songs and working on several different projects up until her death. Lynn’s passing was announced in a statement released by the family in October 2022.
Although Lynn may no longer be with us, her music and her final project serve as a reminder of her talent and her unwavering faith.
