DeSantis may pardon Jan. 6 defendants; Trump promised it on his first day as president.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has promised to be a champion of justice if elected president. In a recent interview with “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show,” DeSantis pledged to be “aggressive” in issuing pardons to Jan. 6 defendants, including former President Donald Trump.

DeSantis plans to assemble a team on day one to review all cases of individuals who have been victims of weaponization or political targeting. He is committed to issuing pardons to those who have been unfairly treated, no matter how big or small the case may be.

‘Ongoing Injustice’

Trump is currently facing four criminal investigations, including two federal probes. One of these investigations relates to his handling of classified documents, and the other revolves around his actions following the 2020 presidential election and leading up to the Jan. 6 Capitol breach.

Trump believes that special counsel Jack Smith, who is conducting both federal investigations, is politically biased against him. In a recent letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Trump’s attorneys asserted that he is being treated unfairly and requested a meeting to discuss the ongoing injustice.

Despite being at the center of multiple investigations, Trump maintains his innocence in all four cases.

Oath Keeper Sentenced

DeSantis’ remarks came on the same day as the sentencing of Oath Keepers founder and leader Stewart Rhodes, a Jan. 6 defendant who was convicted in November of seditious conspiracy, obstructing an official proceeding, and other charges.
