NASCAR probes Bubba Wallace radio hack.
NASCAR Investigates Alleged Radio Hack Targeting Bubba Wallace
NASCAR announced Wednesday it would open an investigation into an alleged hack of one of its driver’s radios.
The breach of the radio channel of Bubba Wallace’s team featured an unidentified person telling Wallace, who is NASCAR’s only black driver competing in its Cup Series, to “go back to where you came from, you a******.”
“We certainly take that seriously, no doubt about that,” NASCAR spokesman Mike Forde said. “But we can’t have fans interfering with team radio and potential competition implications.”
Wallace reportedly did not hear the comment.
The 29-year-old driver also drew attention in 2020 for alleging that a noose was placed in his garage, and those claims have been proven to be false.
Following his back-to-back top-five finishes, Wallace ranks 15th in the Cup Series standings.
NASCAR decided not to give Wallace a penalty after he made an obscene gesture during an interview on Sunday. A penalty wasn’t issued because NASCAR understood the gesture was not made “malicious[ly].”
Stay tuned for updates on the investigation.
