Social Security update: $914 direct payment in 5 days.
Get Ready for Your SSI Payment!
In just five days, recipients of the Supplemental Security Income program will receive checks worth up to $914 for individual filers.
Are you ready for some good news? If you’re a recipient of the Supplemental Security Income program, you’re about to receive a payment that will help you cover your expenses. On June 1, the first of two checks will be sent out, with the second one coming on June 30. That means you’ll have some extra cash to help you get through the month.
Who Gets What?
It’s important to note that the amount you receive may vary depending on your situation. Individual filers can expect to receive up to $914, while eligible couples can receive up to $1,371. Essential persons, who live with people receiving SSI payments and provide them with necessary care, get a monthly payment of $458.
It’s also worth noting that SSI payments are separate from regular Social Security benefits that go to retirees. SSI provides monthly payments to adults and children with blindness or another disability and limited income. To qualify for SSI, a person has to be over 65, be totally or partially blind, or have a “physical or mental condition(s) that very seriously limits their daily activities for a period of 12 months or more or may be expected to result in death.”
When Will You Get Your Payment?
While payments are usually disbursed on the first of each month, there are exceptions for when the first falls on a weekend or a holiday. In those cases, the SSA sends its monthly SSI checks on the last business day before the month begins. This year, there are four months in which two payments will be delivered in the same month: March, June, September, and December. This is because the first of the month falls on a weekend or holiday in April, July, and October. Jan. 1 is always a holiday.
History of SSI Payments
Did you know that SSI payments were first issued by the SSA in January 1974? Payment rates have increased for cost-of-living adjustments since 1975, according to the agency. So, if you’re a recipient of SSI payments, you’re part of a long history of people who have received this important support.
So, get ready for your SSI payment and use it wisely. It’s a great opportunity to cover your expenses and take care of yourself and your loved ones.
