Clue left by murder victim implicates ‘Family Feud’ contestant in crime.
Murder Victim Left a Big Clue Before Her Own Death – Implicates ‘Family Feud’ Contestant in Heinous Crime
“If something ever happens to me, make sure the number one person of interest is Tim,”
“I am putting this in writing that I’m fearful he will somehow harm me, come after me, or will try to [do] something to me that takes me away from the kids or the kids away from me,”
Long before she was murdered, an Illinois woman had already left a clue as to who her killer might be. Rebecca “Becky” Bliefnick had told her sister that if anything happened to her, her husband Tim Bliefnick should be the chief suspect. And that’s exactly what happened.
Tim Bliefnick, a former “Family Feud” contestant, was accused of killing his estranged wife in February. During the trial, Sarah Reilly, Becky’s sister, testified that Becky had sent her a text message expressing her fear of Tim and his erratic behavior. She also mentioned that he had taken away her guns and ammunition.
Prosecutors presented evidence that Tim Bliefnick’s internet search history included instructions on the use of a crowbar, making a silencer, opening a window from the outside, and washing off gunpowder from one’s hands. They also painted a picture of the murder, describing how Becky Bliefnick was shot 14 times after her house was broken into with a crowbar and she was chased through the house.
During the trial, forensic pathologist Dr. Scott Denton said that none of the 14 wounds Becky Bliefnick suffered was fatal. However, the gunshot wounds created defects and bleeding inside her body, and the mechanism or process of her dying was internal bleeding. She would have been alive with these gunshot wounds for at least several minutes.
Defense Attorney Ridicules Prosecution’s Story
Defense attorney Casey Schnack ridiculed the story prosecutors presented, saying that it takes evidence, not theories, to win a conviction. She pointed out that the state’s theory was that Tim left his three children home alone in the middle of the night, rode a bike from 16th and Hampshire to 24th and Kentucky road, shimmied up the side of his house and broke in using his crowbar, walked in through a window, left a footprint on the floor, kicked down Becky’s door, and shot her 14 times before riding his bike back home.
Despite the defense’s arguments, Tim Bliefnick was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Lessons Learned
- Always take threats seriously and report them to the authorities.
- Don’t ignore warning signs of domestic violence.
- Trust your instincts and take steps to protect yourself if you feel threatened.
The tragic story of Becky Bliefnick serves as a reminder that domestic violence can happen to anyone, and it’s important to take steps to protect yourself and seek help if you need it.
