Graduation Speaker at CUNY Law School Sparks Controversy with Anti-Israel Tirade
“Israel continues to indiscriminately rain bullets and bombs on worshipers, murdering the old, the young, attacking the funerals and graveyards as it encourages lynch mobs,” graduate Fatima Mousa Mohammed told the audience during the May 12 ceremony.
Mohammed called for a “revolution” against “white supremacy” and “indiscriminate” murder by the Israeli state.
“May we rejoice in the corners of our New York City bedroom apartments and dining tables, may it be fuel for the fight against capitalism, racism, imperialism, and Zionism around the world,” Mohammed said.
The speech delivered by a graduation speaker at the City University of New York Law School has sparked controversy after the speaker went on an anti-Israel tirade. The speech was met with calls for cutting taxpayer funding to the school, which is mainly funded by New York State.
Calls for Funding to be Stripped from CUNY Law School
- Former Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin said, “Raging antisemitism has fully consumed the City University of New York. Until the administration is overhauled and all Jewish students and faculty are welcome again, taxpayer funding must be immediately halted.”
- Democratic state assemblyman from Brooklyn, Simcha Eichenstein, called the speech “dangerous.”
- Rep. Ritchie Torres (D., N.Y.) called the speaker “crazed.”
Democrats are also joining in the condemnation. The remarks come after the Biden administration caved to anti-Israel activists by embracing a watered-down definition of anti-Semitism that permits holding the Jewish state to higher standards than other countries.
