DeSantis’ campaign launch didn’t affect Trump’s primary lead.

Trump Leads DeSantis in Republican Primary Race

Despite announcing his run for president in late May, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) still trails former President Donald Trump by a substantial amount for the Republican nomination.

The former president has more than double the expected voters of DeSantis, leading the Republican primary race among likely Republican voters with 53% against the Florida governor’s 25%. Trump’s lead is bigger than the one he had in May, when he was ahead of DeSantis by 48% to 28%, according to a recent Yahoo News/YouGov survey.

Powerhouse Candidates

Trump and DeSantis are seen by many to be the two powerhouse candidates in the Republican primary race. Other declared candidates in the primary currently have far less support. Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), and business entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy each have 3% support, while former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and radio host Larry Elder both have 1%.

Additionally, in a matchup between the two Florida men, Trump leads DeSantis among Republican primary voters with 55% to 31%.

Biden Leads Trump and DeSantis

However, both Trump and DeSantis trail behind President Joe Biden, with the president leading Trump with 48% to 41%, a wider lead compared to early May when Biden was ahead 45% to 43%. DeSantis, meanwhile, trails behind Biden with 46% to 40%.

DeSantis’ Presidential Campaign Tour

DeSantis announced his presidential run on Twitter on May 24, ending months of speculation that he would run in 2024. Earlier this week, he began his presidential campaign tour by visiting the state of Iowa.

The poll was conducted by YouGov using a nationally representative sample of 1,520 adults in the United States who were interviewed online from May 25-30. The poll’s margin of error is approximately 2.7%.
