Portland police dismiss serial killer suspicions following 6 women’s deaths.
Portland Police Address “Online Rumors” of Serial Killer
The Pacific Northwest has a dark history of serial killers, but recent deaths of six women within 100 miles of each other have sparked fear that a new killer may be on the loose. However, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) is trying to quell “online rumors” that the deaths are connected.
“While any premature death is concerning, and we will diligently investigate deaths that happen in our jurisdiction in collaboration with the Multnomah County and Oregon State Medical Examiner’s offices, PPB has no reason to believe these 6 cases are connected,” the statement continued.
The PPB released a statement on Monday, acknowledging that the rumors have caused “anxiety and fear” in the community, but that they are not supported by the facts available at this point. The police noted that they are still investigating the deaths of Kristin Smith and Ashley Real, and that a cause of death has not been determined in either case. In a third case, the body of an unidentified woman was found in a tent, and a medical examiner is still determining the cause of death.
Investigations Ongoing
While the PPB is not actively participating in the investigations of the other three deaths, they have spoken to the agencies working on them. The police are asking the community to be aware of the facts before sharing speculation.
“PPB is assuring our community that if we learn of an articulable danger, we will notify the public about it. PPB will continue to coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to ensure we are doing all we can to pursue justice for any and all crime victims.”
Of the six women recently found dead, only Joanna Speaks has been determined to be a homicide so far. The body of Charity Lynn Perry was found in a culvert, and Bridget Leann Webster’s body was found by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Finally, Ashley Real’s remains were found in a wooded area in Clackamas County.
Stay Informed
It’s important to stay informed about the facts of these cases and not to spread rumors or speculation. The PPB is working diligently to investigate these deaths and ensure the safety of the community. If you have any information that could assist in the investigations, please contact the authorities.
