Trump pleads not guilty to federal charges, claims he’s the only savior of the nation.
Trump Declares Himself the Savior of America
Former President Donald Trump made a dramatic appearance at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, on Tuesday night. He had just turned himself in to authorities in Miami and pleaded not guilty to 37 felony counts. In his speech, he declared that he is “the only one” who can save America.
Trump’s appearance followed his appearance before federal Magistrate Judge Jonathan Goodman in the Southern District of Florida. He pleaded not guilty to 37 felony counts, including his alleged retention of national defense information, his alleged attempts to obstruct the investigation, and for allegedly lying to prosecutors in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation.
During his speech, Trump told supporters that his arrest was “the most evil and heinous abuse of power in the history” of the country. He also claimed that President Joe Biden would “go down in infamy” as “the most corrupt president in the history of our country.”
Trump’s Claims of Wrongful Charges
Trump repeatedly said that he was wrongfully charged under the Espionage Act and that the matter pertains to the Presidential Records Act. He also highlighted other examples of misconduct and potential criminal activity from other politicians who were not prosecuted, including former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Biden.
Trump took special aim at Biden over the investigation into his possession of classified material and allegations that he received a $5 million bribe from a Ukrainian executive while serving as vice president in the Obama administration.
Trump’s Promise to Appoint a Special Counsel
Trump repeatedly attacked Smith during his speech, declaring him a “deranged lunatic” who does “political hit jobs” and ruins people’s lives. Toward the end of his speech, the former president focused on contrasting his policy achievements compared to the failings of the Biden administration.
He also promised to appoint a special counsel to go after his political opponents if he wins the Republican Party nomination and goes on to win the general election. Trump said, “I will appoint a real special prosecutor to go after the most corrupt president in the history of the United States of America, Joe Biden, and the entire Biden crime family, name a special prosecutor, and all others involved with the destruction of our elections, our borders, and our country itself.”
“They’re destroying our country. And when I’m re-elected, and we will get re-elected, we have no choice, we’re not going to have a country anymore. I will totally obliterate the deep state, we will obliterate the deep state,” he added.
Trump’s Bold Claim
“And we know who they are. I know exactly who they are,” he said. “And I am the only one that can save this nation because you know, they’re not coming after me, they’re coming after you, and I just happen to be standing in their way.”
