Schiff: McCarthy’s censure resolution is a waste of resources.
Rep. Adam Schiff Reacts to Republican Resolution to Censure Him
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) responded passionately to a recent Republican resolution aimed at censuring him, denouncing it as a “terrible abuse of House resources.” The resolution seeks to impose a hefty $16 million fine on Schiff for his role in advancing claims of Russian collusion in the 2016 election involving former President Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) introduced the measure to censure Schiff, coinciding with the arrest of Trump on federal charges related to mishandling classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago estate. In an interview with CNN on Wednesday, Schiff expressed his flattery but criticized House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for prioritizing this “MAGA resolution” over more pressing national challenges.
McCarthy has a history of targeting Schiff, having previously removed him from the House Intelligence Committee alongside Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) earlier this year. Schiff accused Luna of using the censure vote as a distraction from Trump’s indictment and arrest on 37 counts, led by special counsel Jack Smith.
According to Schiff, the resolution is a Republican effort to appease Trump by attacking his “most effective adversary.” Upon reviewing the text, Schiff characterized it as a collection of Fox News-inspired attacks, with the censure primarily motivated by his leadership in the first impeachment of Donald Trump, which resulted in a bipartisan vote to convict.
The California Democrat gained national prominence as the lead prosecutor in Trump’s first impeachment trial in 2020, focusing on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

As a vocal opponent of the Republican front-runner for the 2024 presidential race, Schiff described the facts presented in the indictment as “devastating,” revealing Trump’s premeditation. He further accused Trump of orchestrating a deliberate effort to mislead investigators and utilizing his attorneys to deceive the FBI.
Schiff recently announced his candidacy for the Senate in 2024, joining a competitive Democratic primary race for the California seat currently held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).
