Conor McGregor faces sexual assault allegations during NBA Finals.
Former UFC Champion Conor McGregor Accused of Sexual Assault at NBA Finals Game
Former UFC champion and public personality Conor McGregor has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman at an NBA Finals game between the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets last week.
The woman said McGregor “violently” forced himself on her inside a VIP men’s bathroom at Kaseya Center in Miami, according to a letter sent to McGregor and his team. She also said McGregor “aggressively kissed her” and tried to force her into multiple sexual acts and that he was aided by security at the arena.
Denial and Investigation
McGregor has denied the allegations through his attorney Barbara Llanes, who released a statement, reading, “Mr. McGregor will not be intimidated.” The Miami Police Department reportedly said its special victims unit is investigating a report filed Sunday, but it would release no other information.
The Alleged Assault
The alleged assault occurred just after game 4 of the NBA Finals series between the Heat and Nuggets, in which the Nuggets won and McGregor was a guest of the NBA and the Heat. The woman claims she was forcefully separated from her friend by NBA and Heat security into the bathroom where McGregor and his own security guard were.
In letters sent to McGregor by the woman’s attorney, Ariel Mitchell, she says, “security refused to let [the woman] exit or allow anyone else, including her friend, inside the bathroom,” per TMZ. Mitchell claims McGregor came out of a stall “and shoved his tongue in the victim’s mouth and aggressively kissed her.”
McGregor allegedly tried to force the woman into multiple other sexual acts before she was able to escape. She then, according to Mitchell, spoke to the police and then sought counsel, who sent the letters to McGregor’s team.
Mitchell said the woman is seeking settlements with the NBA, the Heat, and McGregor in lieu of litigation.
Reactions and Fallout
Both the Heat and the NBA said they are aware of the allegations and are working to learn more information. The UFC also released a statement, saying, “UFC will allow the legal process to play out before making any additional statements.“
Before the alleged incident took place following last Friday’s game, McGregor was the main act of the Heat’s halftime show. However, what appeared to be a skit between the mixed martial artist and the team’s mascot quickly escalated.
McGregor struck “Burnie” twice, and the festivities continued, but it was revealed after that the man inside the costume had to be brought to the emergency room. The sexual assault allegations during NBA Finals.”>man received pain medication and was sent home from the hospital, per the Athletic.
