Rod Stewart makes big career move: ‘Everything must end’
Rod Stewart Leaves Rock and Roll Behind After 60 Years
Rod Stewart definitely got everyone’s attention when he announced that he’s leaving the rock and roll genre behind after more than 60 years.
During the 78-year-old singer’s appearance on BBC Breakfast, Stewart said he’s not retiring from music, but has decided to “move on” to a different genre.
The comments were made when the host of the show noted how “rock stars are performing into incredible ages now.” The “Maggie May” hitmaker replied that he’s “actually stopping” and is in a “good place” with his decision.
“I had great success with ‘The Great American Songbook’… and I’ve just done a swing album with Jools Holland, which is going to come out next year, so I want to go in that direction,” Stewart said.
“I just want to leave all the rock ‘n’ roll stuff behind, for a while,” he added. “Everything has to come to an end sooner or later.”

Embracing a New Direction
Stewart is getting ready to hit the road this month with Boy George and said at the end of his 40-show world tour, he is “really looking forward to doing something else, especially singing with Jools’ band.”
“It borders on rock ‘n’ roll anyway, it’s just not ‘Maggie May’ and ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?’” the rocker said.

The legendary rocker has battled a variety of health issues for the last two decades. He was previously diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had to have a tumor removed, the Daily Mail noted. Less than two decades later, he was diagnosed with an aggressive prostate cancer. In 2019, Stewart’s wife Penny Lancaster revealed that the cancer was in remission after Stewart underwent several rounds of radiation.
Stewart is father to a total of eight children, two with current wife Lancaster and six from four past relationships. He recently became a grandfather for a third time in May.
