Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ surprising view on renewing wedding vows.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos: Vow Renewals Are the “Kiss of Death” for Marriages
During a recent interview, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos shared their thoughts on couples renewing their wedding vows, likening it to a “kiss of death” for a marriage.
“We are very superstitious about vow renewals,” Ripa said, calling them the “kiss of death” and suggesting they should come with “divorce papers.”
“I just feel like a vow renewal is a pre-divorce,” she added. “It’s like, ‘We’re not getting along … I know what we should do!'”
Consuelos agreed, stating that vow renewals often happen after the husband has “messed up” in some way.
“And I’m not talking about ‘leaving the toilet seat up,'” the “Riverdale” star clarified. “I’m talking about messed up!”
When asked about doing a vow renewal live on the air, the couple emphatically replied, “Noooooo.”
Ripa and Consuelos, who met on the ABC soap opera “All My Children” and eloped to Las Vegas in May 1996, have been married for over 25 years and have three children together.

In April, Consuelos became Ripa’s cohost after Ryan Seacrest left the show. During the interview, the couple also reminisced about their Vegas wedding at the Chapel of the Bells.
“We’ve met other couples who have gotten married there who have also been married for thousands of years,” Ripa shared. “That place is special.”
“They didn’t even know our names!” Consuelos joked, recalling how the officiant asked, ‘Bride, do you take groom? Groom, do you take [bride]?’
Consuelos also mentioned that the officiant reminded them that “Marriage is not to be entered into lightly.”
“I was looking around the room — and we’re in Vegas, and it looks like Vegas — and I was like, ‘This is pretty light,'” Consuelos added.
