Kathy Griffin: Embracing My Comeback as a Naughty, Grateful Comedian
Comedian Kathy Griffin Opens Up About Her Return to Stand-Up
In a recent interview, comedian and leftist activist Kathy Griffin discussed her highly anticipated return to the stand-up circuit. After taking a break following the infamous 2017 Trump photo scandal, Griffin is ready to make a comeback.
Overcoming Challenges
The 62-year-old celebrity has faced numerous challenges in recent years. She underwent vocal surgery and bravely battled lung cancer, undergoing a lobectomy to remove the cancerous cells.
During the interview with People, Griffin opened up about the toll these experiences have taken on her mental health. She described her anxiety and PTSD as “crippling,” attributing them to both her medical issues and the fallout from the controversial photo scandal.
A Journey of Redemption
The 2017 photo scandal, in which Griffin shared an image of herself holding a severed, bloody head resembling then-President Donald Trump, caused a media firestorm. Griffin lost her annual New Year’s Eve co-hosting gig with Anderson Cooper and faced cancellations from over 25 theaters for her upcoming shows.
Despite these setbacks, Griffin is determined to reclaim her voice. She expressed excitement about her upcoming solo show in Las Vegas, where tickets are selling out rapidly. Griffin hopes that her success will demonstrate to others that she is no longer a controversial figure.
“I am coming out of my cancellation. And the cancer isn’t killing me. I can still put together a show. I love writing,” Griffin declared. “I don’t know what’s gonna work. I don’t know what isn’t. But that’s a very different place than I was even six months ago.”

Griffin also mentioned her plans to share the full journey of her post-photo scandal years, but assured fans that she will not be using Trump as material in her shows.
“I feel like I figuratively lost my comedic voice because of the Trump photo scandal, I literally lost my voice due to the cancer surgery and now I finally have my voice back,” Griffin shared with People. “I’m a grateful, naughty comedian again!”
