Xi Jinping of China and Bill Gates, an old friend, are collaborating on a plan to benefit humanity as a whole.

China’s Xi Jinping Calls Bill Gates ‘An Old Friend’ as They Hatch Plan to ‘Benefit Humanity as a Whole’

During a meeting in Beijing on Friday, Chinese President Xi Jinping referred to Microsoft founder Bill Gates as “an old friend,” according to Reuters. The two leaders discussed the relationship between the U.S. and China.

Xi expressed delight at reuniting with Gates after three years and mentioned that Gates was the first American friend he had met with in 2023, as reported by Reuters.

Xi emphasized his hope for strong relations between the two countries and expressed openness to allowing U.S. artificial intelligence companies, including Microsoft, into China. He stated, “I often say the foundation of U.S.-China relations lies with its people. I place my hopes on the American people,” as shown in a video published by Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, according to Reuters.

Xi expressed his belief that amidst the current global situation, various activities beneficial to both countries and humanity as a whole can be carried out.

Gates, who arrived in Beijing on Wednesday, conveyed his honor at being able to meet with Xi. He stated, “We’ve always had great conversations, and we’ll have a lot of important topics to discuss today,” as reported.

During their meeting, Xi and Gates discussed the worldwide eruption of AI. Xi welcomed U.S. companies, such as Microsoft, to bring their AI technology to China, according to individuals familiar with the discussions cited by Reuters.

It is worth noting that Microsoft is a major backer of OpenAI, the maker of the popular chatbot ChatGPT, which is currently disallowed in mainland China and Hong Kong.

However, Gates has faced controversies in the past. He had multiple meetings with now-deceased sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, who reportedly attempted to blackmail Gates using his knowledge of an alleged affair the billionaire had with Russian bridge player Mila Antonova in 2010, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

When asked about his relationship with Epstein, Gates acknowledged, “You’re going way back in time, but yeah, I will say it for the over 100th time, yeah, I shouldn’t have had dinners with him,” as seen in a video.

The Gates Foundation did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
