Former Vice President Mike Pence Criticizes Trump’s Stance on National Debt
Former Vice President Mike Pence has recently voiced his criticism of former President Donald Trump’s position on the national debt. Pence argues that Trump’s stance on this issue is “identical” to that of President Joe Biden. In an interview on NBC News’s Meet the Press, Pence emphasized the importance of addressing the national debt, which is one of the key issues that 2024 candidates must tackle.
“Donald Trump’s issue on the national debt is identical to Joe Biden’s,” Pence stated. “To me, the Republican Party has to be the party of growth and fiscal responsibility and reform.”
Pence believes that the Republican Party should be transparent with the American people about the true magnitude of the nation’s debt. He emphasizes the need for the party to prioritize economic growth and fiscal responsibility.
Since leaving the White House in January 2021, Pence has been openly critical of Trump. He recently expressed his concerns about Trump’s handling of classified documents, stating that he cannot defend the allegations made against the former president.
2024 Republican Primary Race
Both Trump and Pence are currently vying for the Republican Party’s nomination for the 2024 presidential race. A recent national poll revealed that a majority of voters (56%) believe Trump should withdraw from the race due to his indictment. However, among Republican and Republican-leaning respondents, 64% stated that they would continue to support Trump if he remains in the race.
Other notable contenders in the 2024 Republican primary race include Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), former South Carolina Governor and United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, who recently announced his candidacy for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
