DOJ seeks to silence Trump, restricting his ability to comment on case materials with potential new order.
The Department of Justice Seeks to Keep Classified Documents Away from Trump
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed a motion to prevent former President Donald Trump from accessing classified documents that will be used in his upcoming trial. The motion aims to block Trump from releasing the documents, as reported by The Hill.
Trump is facing 37 counts related to his alleged mishandling of classified information. The DOJ’s motion specifically requests an order that covers documents containing information about ongoing investigations, which could potentially be used in other cases against different individuals, according to the Justice Department.
The order seeks to limit Trump’s access to only 31 documents while under supervision. It states, “Defendants shall only have access to Discovery Materials under the direct supervision of Defense Counsel or a member of Defense Counsel’s staff. Defendants shall not retain copies of Discovery Material. Defendants may take notes regarding Discovery Materials, but such notes shall be stored securely by Defense Counsel.”
In addition, the order aims to prevent Trump from sharing any information he sees in the documents.

The DOJ’s filing states, “The Discovery Materials, along with any information derived therefrom, shall not be disclosed to the public or the news media, or disseminated on any news or social media platform, without prior notice to and consent of the United States or approval of the Court.”
According to the New York Daily News, Judge Bruce Reinhart, who approved a search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in August, will review the DOJ’s request.
Of course they want a gag order on Trump.
That way the DOJ can leak everything they want the public to see so, even if Trump beats the charges, he’ll be tried in the court of public opinion.

During his arraignment, Trump was already barred from discussing the case with witnesses and his co-defendant, Walt Nauta, according to USA Today. However, attorney Mark Zaid suggests that the order may have limited impact, as Trump’s public speeches will need to be monitored to ensure no forbidden messages are being conveyed.
Zaid stated, “Should Trump make comments at an event attended by Nauta, or perhaps through television or social media, and it appears that very clear messages, if not instructions, are being made that would be deemed inappropriate if the two were meeting privately, I would expect prosecutors to revisit this issue before the judge for further clarification or expansion of the scope of the gag order.”
