46 Nigerian Christians killed in terrorist attacks; government accused of negligence: report.
46 Christians Killed in Nigeria as Terrorists Target Villages
A shocking report reveals that over two days, terrorists in Nigeria mercilessly targeted Christian villages, resulting in the tragic deaths of forty-six innocent individuals.
The horrifying attacks occurred on June 3 and 4 in the southern Nigerian villages of Michihe, Achamegh, Mbagene Kpav, and Imande Mbakange, as reported by Morning Star News. The Shitile Development Association (SDA) issued a statement condemning the violence and expressing their distress over the lack of action from the Nigerian government and security agencies.
Perpetrators Known, Yet No Action Taken
“Altogether, 46 Christians were killed by the terrorists in the two days of attacks on our communities,” the SDA statement read. “Most disturbing also is the fact that the identity of the perpetrators is known to security agencies and the Nigerian government, and yet nothing has been done to end this carnage.”
The attacks were allegedly orchestrated by militant Islamic Fulani herdsmen, a nomadic group notorious for targeting Christians in Nigeria. Some advocates for religious freedom argue that the persecution of Christians in the African nation should be recognized as genocide.
The SDA statement further highlighted the dire situation, stating, “As our people are fleeing, herders are occupying these areas and grazing freely on our farms. Hordes of lives have been horrendously eliminated in several villages across the land, such that the whole land is thrown into wailing and mourning.”
Alfred Atera, a local council official, strongly condemned the attacks and called on security agencies to take immediate action to end the violence.
In response to the attacks, police in Benue, the state where the violence occurred, have deployed additional personnel to the area to restore peace and protect the affected communities.
These recent attacks in Benue follow a series of devastating incidents in the Plateau state, where twenty-eight Christian churches were destroyed, and an estimated 300 Christians lost their lives. The destruction resulted in the displacement of approximately 30,000 Christians in the state.
According to a report by the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), the plight of Nigerian Christians is even more alarming. The report estimates that in 2022 alone, over 5,000 Nigerian Christians were killed, and more than 3,000 were kidnapped.
The perpetrators behind these heinous acts are believed to be members of radical Islamic terror groups, including Fulani herdsmen groups, Boko Haram, and ISAWP (Islamic State West Africa Province).
