Democrat Governor criticizes removal of far-left books from schools, deeming it harmful to children.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore Defends Far-Left Books in Schools and Libraries
Democratic Maryland governor Wes Moore passionately argues against the removal of far-left books from children’s reading lists, claiming it is detrimental to their development.
According to Moore, removing books that promote critical race theory or contain controversial material is “about telling other kids that they shouldn’t understand their own power.” In a recent interview with former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, now an MSNBC host, Moore expressed his concern, stating that it “castrates” children.
Moore and Psaki align with the Democratic and media narrative that removing books from reading lists is equivalent to “banning books.” However, in many cases, the books are simply relocated to a different section of the library, as was the case with Amanda Gorman’s poem read at President Joe Biden’s inauguration.
While some parents have called for the removal of inappropriate books and materials, far-left LGBT groups advocating for transgenderism and “unlimited abortion access” have influenced the Nebraska Department of Education’s sex-education standards, leading to significant backlash from parents, as reported by the Washington Free Beacon.
The College Board has also faced criticism for promoting critical race theory in its high school course on African-American studies, resulting in a public dispute with Florida governor Ron DeSantis (R.).
In response, blue states like California have continued to advocate for these books, even requiring schools to teach progressive perspectives on gender, sexuality, and race, sometimes in explicit ways, as reported by the Free Beacon.
Moore concludes by expressing his desire to make bigotry expensive and ensure that states face economic consequences for restricting or removing books.
