NHTSA probes Hyundai Ioniq 5 cars.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Investigates Complaints of Power Loss in 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is currently conducting an inspection on the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 following reports from 30 consumers who experienced “a loss of motive power.” This has prompted the NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation to open an investigation on June 8.
“Many consumers report a loud pop noise followed by a warning displayed in their dashboard and immediately experience a loss of motive power that ranges from a reduction to a complete loss of motive power. ODI conducted several owner interviews confirming a range of loss of power and varying time intervals between the warning message and loss of power,”
The NHTSA has not received any reports of crashes, fires, injuries, or fatalities related to these alleged issues with the electric vehicle. However, upon opening the investigation, the NHTSA learned from Hyundai that the power failure was linked to the integrated control charging unit, which powers the hybrid vehicle battery and the low-voltage 12V battery.
A spokesperson for Hyundai has stated that they are fully cooperating with the NHTSA’s investigation. They also mentioned that next month, Hyundai plans to launch a campaign to update the software of the affected cars and, if necessary, replace their components.
