Hunter Biden plea: Investigation to persist despite ‘favorable’ agreement.

The House Oversight Committee’s Investigation Continues Despite Hunter Biden’s Plea Deal

The House Oversight Committee’s investigation into an alleged bribery scheme involving Hunter Biden and a Ukrainian energy executive will persist, even after the president’s son agreed to plead guilty to three federal charges.

Committee Chairman Slams Hunter Biden’s Plea Deal

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) expressed his dissatisfaction with Hunter Biden’s plea deal, referring to it as a mere “slap on the wrist.” He affirmed that the committee will continue its investigation into the Biden family.

Biden Faces Prospect of UPS Strike While Consolidating Union Support

On Tuesday, the Department of Justice disclosed that Hunter Biden would plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges and one felony charge of possessing a firearm while using illegal drugs. This development follows a nearly five-year federal investigation into the president’s son.

The plea deal arises amidst the Oversight Committee’s examination of whether Hunter Biden and President Joe Biden each received $5 million bribes from an executive at the Ukrainian energy giant Burisma, where Hunter Biden served on the board. These allegations stem from a paid FBI informant through an FBI-generated FD-1023 tip sheet, although they have not been confirmed.

Committee Chairman Vows to Uncover the Truth

“Let’s be clear: The Department of Justice’s charges against President Biden’s son Hunter reveal a two-tiered system of justice,” stated Comer. He emphasized that the charges and the lenient plea deal would not hinder the Oversight Committee’s investigation. The committee is determined to uncover the full extent of President Biden’s involvement in his family’s alleged schemes.

Comer previously mentioned that the FD-1023 document was being utilized in an active and ongoing investigation into Hunter Biden. It remains uncertain whether Hunter Biden’s plea deal is connected to the investigation mentioned by Comer.
