BMW’s Strong Ties with China: A Win-Win for the Future of the Car Industry

BMW CEO Oliver Zipse: China Partnership Key to Green and Connected Vehicles

During Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s visit to BMW’s headquarters in Munich on Wednesday, CEO Oliver Zipse emphasized the importance of the company’s strong ties with China. As the car industry shifts towards greener and more connected vehicles, Zipse sees the partnership with China as a “win-win” situation.

Accompanied by a high-ranking delegation, Premier Li met with Zipse and other BMW executives as part of his first official trip abroad since taking office. The visit included discussions with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and other top politicians.

In a statement, Zipse highlighted the deep and long-standing ties between BMW and China. He emphasized their shared goals in areas such as electric mobility, decarbonization, and intelligent connected vehicles.

“Strong partnerships between BMW Group and Chinese partners will continue to deliver a win-win during the transformation of our industry,” Zipse added.

Premier Li had previously expressed concerns about a lack of cooperation between Germany and China, emphasizing the risks it poses. However, BMW’s collaboration with China has proven to be fruitful.

China serves as BMW Group’s largest product development location outside of Germany and is a crucial sales market for the company. In 2022 alone, over 791,000 vehicles were delivered to Chinese customers.
