Merrick Garland addresses Hunter Biden’s plea deal query.
Attorney General Merrick Garland Responds to Hunter Biden’s Plea Deal
Attorney General Merrick Garland responded on Wednesday to Hunter Biden’s recent plea deal, taking steps to distance himself from the ongoing investigation. In a press conference, a reporter questioned Garland about a potential double standard in the Department of Justice’s handling of the case, particularly in light of the recent indictment of former President Donald Trump on 37 federal charges.
“As I said from the moment of my appointment as attorney general, I would leave this matter in the hands of the United States attorney for Delaware,” Garland stated, referring to David Weiss, who was appointed by the Trump administration.
Garland expressed his confidence in Weiss, emphasizing that he had given him full authority to make the appropriate decisions regarding the case. He then redirected the reporter to seek further information from Weiss himself.
Weiss, who is leading the investigation into Hunter Biden, recently announced that Biden would be pleading guilty to three federal counts. These charges include two tax-related misdemeanors and one felony gun possession crime.
