DeSantis targets Newsom on waste and drug use in California streets.
Gov. Ron DeSantis Takes Aim at California’s Problems
During a recent interview with former President Donald Trump’s former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Fox News, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) didn’t hold back in criticizing his California counterpart, Gavin Newsom (D). DeSantis highlighted the issues of defecation and drug use that he witnessed on the streets of the West Coast state.
This interview, which aired in the coveted time slot previously occupied by Tucker Carlson, provided a refreshing change of tone compared to recent high-profile interviews on the network. Instead of sparring with his interviewees, DeSantis engaged in a friendly conversation with McEnany.
The Culture Wars and Book Bans
The discussion began with DeSantis addressing what he referred to as the Left’s culture wars. He dismissed the notion that Florida is banning certain books from schools, labeling it a “hoax.”
Florida’s Successes and California’s Failures
McEnany then played a clip of Newsom boasting about California’s recent achievements and claiming that Florida couldn’t compare. DeSantis seized the opportunity to counter Newsom’s claims.
“We’re No. 1 in new business formations even though we’re only 60% of the size of California,” DeSantis proudly stated. “We have way less tax, way less debt. We have one of the lowest tax and debt burdens in the entire country.”
The Alleged Exodus from California
DeSantis shifted the conversation to the topic of people leaving California, a state that was once highly desirable. He placed the blame for this alleged exodus squarely on Newsom’s shoulders.
“Now they’re hemorrhaging wealth. Now they’re hemorrhaging population because you see things like what I saw the other day in San Francisco,” DeSantis revealed.
“I saw people defecating on the sidewalk. I saw people in an open-air drug market using fentanyl. I saw them using crack cocaine, and I had… some of the left-wing San Francisco people say some nasty things to me,” he continued.
While some individuals in California were causing trouble on the streets, DeSantis commended the police in the state for their professionalism and respect.
“I had the police officers come over and shake my hand and thank me for what we’re doing in Florida because they wish they had a commitment to law and order,” DeSantis shared.
“I grew up in Florida,” he added. “I never saw California license plates until the last four years.”
It’s clear that Gov. Ron DeSantis isn’t afraid to speak his mind and highlight the issues he believes are plaguing California. As he continues to make waves in the political landscape, his criticisms of Newsom and the state’s problems are sure to resonate with many.
