IRS whistleblowers allege that Hunter Biden was given special treatment by the IRS and the DOJ during the investigation into his felony tax fraud.
Whistleblowers Allege Preferential Treatment for Hunter Biden
According to whistleblowers from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Hunter Biden received “preferential treatment” with the involvement of President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ). The Ways and Means Committee voted to release transcripts of the whistleblower testimony, shedding light on these allegations.
During a closed-door hearing, Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.) discussed the transcripts and the committee’s decision to make them public. Notably, every Democrat on the committee voted against the release.
After providing both parties with the opportunity to review and discuss the transcripts, the panel voted 25–18 in favor of their release.
Chairman Smith addressed the media after the hearing, revealing that the panel had heard whistleblower testimony regarding government abuse and preferential treatment for Hunter Biden. He highlighted the concern among Americans about the weaponization of government against its citizens.
Smith stated, “Mr. Biden has been under investigation for tax crimes, including evading taxes on income from foreign sources.”
Key Allegations from the Whistleblower Testimony
- The federal government is not treating taxpayers equally when enforcing tax laws.
- The Biden DOJ is intervening and overstepping in the investigation of the president’s son.
- The whistleblowers have faced immediate retaliation.
Smith emphasized that this testimony came from not one, but two IRS employees.
The whistleblowers began working on the investigation into Hunter Biden in November 2018 as part of a separate IRS investigation. Smith clarified that this investigation was not ordered by any individual or political entity but was part of the IRS’s ordinary course of work.
The IRS ultimately recommended three charges against Hunter Biden, including a felony attempt to defeat or evade tax charge, making felony fraudulent or false statements, and willful failure to file returns, supply information, or pay tax.
According to Smith, these tax crimes involve approximately .2 million in unreported taxable income from global sources in Ukraine, Romania, and China. Hunter Biden received a total of around $17.3 million from these foreign sources, which included payments from the Chinese company State Energy HK, a large diamond, and a new Porsche.
Smith criticized the plea deal that Hunter Biden recently received, referring to it as a “slap on the wrist” compared to the charges that have led other Americans to prison.
Regarding the DOJ’s involvement, whistleblowers accused the department of “hamstringing” the investigation. They claimed that career DOJ officials delayed the IRS’s investigative steps after Joe Biden became the presumptive Democratic nominee for President in April 2020.
Smith shared that the whistleblower testimony revealed a lack of U.S. attorney independence, recurring unjustified delays, unusual actions outside the normal course of any investigation, a lack of transparency across the investigation and prosecution teams, and bullying.
