Biden’s approval rating reaches record low: Poll.

President Joe Biden Faces Record-Low Approval

According to a new poll, President Joe Biden is currently facing a record-low approval rating. This comes after months of coverage of the border crisis and questions about Biden’s health.

The latest poll by the Pew Research Center, published Wednesday, found Biden has a 35 percent approval rating, 2 points lower than his previous record low of 37 percent in April. The poll was conducted through the second week of June, before it was reported that Hunter Biden reached a plea deal with the Justice Department over tax crimes that would see him avoid prison time.

Sixty-two percent of respondents said they disapprove of Biden’s handling of his job as president. Just 17 percent said they very strongly approve of Biden.

The low favorability comes after weeks of coverage about the administration’s handling of the border crisis. Just this week, reports showed apprehensions of illegal immigrants whose names are on the FBI’s terror watch list reached an annual record high last month.

There were a total of 125 such arrests at the border at the end of May since the 2023 fiscal year began in October. Last fiscal year saw a then-record 98 arrests, and FY 2021 saw only 15 terror watch list arrests.

Concerns about Biden’s health were also at the forefront when the poll was conducted, days after Biden fell after handing out diplomas at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. A poll from last month showed the majority of Americans don’t think Biden would make it through a second term.

Record Low Support from Within His Own Party

The record low approval comes months after it was reported that Biden faces the lowest support from within his own party for a second term among modern presidents. Just 38 percent of Democrats said the party should nominate Biden for reelection, compared with 57 percent who want to find another plausible candidate, according to an average of polls conducted throughout his first term published by the Washington Post. Former president Donald Trump had 70 percent of his party’s support for a reelection bid.

In interviews conducted by the Washington Post, Democratic voters gave their thoughts on a second Biden term. They said the president’s frequent verbal slip-ups and physical stumbles have given them pause about whether he should run.
