IRS whistleblowers expose five years of DOJ obstruction in Hunter Biden investigation.

Newly Released Testimony Reveals DOJ’s Interference in Hunter Biden Investigation

Newly released testimony from an IRS whistleblower has shed light on the Department of Justice’s actions during the investigation into Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings. The House Ways and Means Committee has made the transcripts of the testimony public, revealing how search warrants were denied, witness interviews were prevented, and lines of inquiry were shut down.

Whistleblowers Speak Out

Gary Shapley, a supervisory special agent with the IRS’s criminal division, provided the testimony earlier this year, along with another anonymous whistleblower. Their accounts highlight the stark contrast in how the Justice Department has handled investigations into former President Donald Trump compared to Hunter Biden, despite the significant evidence collected by the IRS and FBI over the past five years.

The investigation into Hunter Biden began in 2018 as part of a separate inquiry into a foreign-based online pornography platform. The anonymous whistleblower revealed that bank records from the company identified payments to prostitutes linked to a potential prostitution ring, as well as evidence of lavish spending through Hunter Biden’s corporate bank account.

Resistance and Obstruction

Both whistleblowers described how IRS supervisors and Justice Department officials resisted opening the case and attempted to impede its progress once it was opened. Shapley testified that high-ranking officials provided preferential treatment and unchecked conflicts of interest in the investigation. Decisions benefiting Biden were made at every stage of the inquiry.

Despite facing obstacles, the IRS team investigating Biden continued their work. They accessed Hunter Biden’s iCloud in August 2020, uncovering messages that required further investigation. However, prosecutors denied requests to develop a strategy for examining the messages and obtaining location information.

Text Messages and Denied Search Warrants

One text message from 2017, sent by Hunter Biden to a Chinese Communist Party official and businessman, mentioned the involvement of Joe Biden. The investigators believed this warranted a search of the guest house at the Bidens’ Delaware residence, where Hunter Biden had lived. However, an assistant U.S. attorney tipped off Hunter Biden’s attorney, and no search warrant was ever approved.

The anonymous whistleblower also revealed that the Justice Department delayed obtaining a search warrant for emails related to Blue Star Strategies, a lobbying firm for the Ukrainian energy company on whose board Hunter Biden sat. The inquiry into Blue Star Strategies was closed without any charges.

Interference and Retaliation

The Justice Department’s interference continued throughout 2021 and 2022. Shapley testified that the IRS faced retaliation for their involvement in the investigation, including the loss of a promotion and threats from Washington, D.C., officials. The anonymous whistleblower also contradicted testimony from IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel, stating that the IRS had retaliated against them since October 2022.

The Hunter Biden Laptop Saga

Shapley provided a timeline of events regarding Hunter Biden’s laptop, which differs from the public record. The FBI had verified the authenticity of the laptop as early as November 2019, but when the New York Post published a story about it in October 2020, Joe Biden and Democrats dismissed it as disinformation. The FBI had the laptop in its possession for 10 months before the story was published.

The revelations from the testimony raise questions about the Justice Department’s handling of the Hunter Biden investigation and its potential political influence. The transcripts provide a deeper understanding of the obstacles faced by investigators and the interference that hindered their progress.
