Hunter Biden, Attorney General dine at White House following First Son’s criminal charges.
Hunter Biden Attends White House Dinner Despite Admitting to Violating Federal Law
President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden attended a White House dinner on June 22, just two days after he publicly admitted to violating federal law.
Among the attendees at the dinner, held in honor of visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was Attorney General Merrick Garland, a Biden appointee who heads the Department of Justice (DOJ). Also present were Garland’s wife Lynn Rosenman Garland and Hunter Biden’s wife Melissa Cohen Biden.
Although Garland and Hunter Biden were both in attendance, they were not seen speaking with each other during the event.
The dinner was a grand affair, featuring music from renowned violinist Joshua Bell and the United States Marine Band Chamber Orchestra. Notable guests included Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Martin Luther King III, and New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman.
Hunter Biden’s Legal Troubles
Recently, Hunter Biden agreed to plead guilty to intentionally evading over $200,000 in taxes, according to court filings by DOJ prosecutors. These taxes were owed on more than $3 million in income earned in 2017 and 2018.
In addition to the tax charges, Hunter Biden is also facing legal consequences for illegally possessing a gun while using illegal drugs. Prosecutors have stated that he could potentially face up to two years in prison for the tax charges.
Despite these developments, Hunter Biden has remained silent, and his lawyer has declined to comment. However, he has previously expressed confidence that an investigation into his tax affairs would prove his innocence. He is scheduled to appear in federal court in Delaware in July to seek approval for a plea agreement.
Interestingly, the judge assigned to Hunter Biden’s case is U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika, a Trump appointee.
Accusations of Interference
Accusations have also emerged that the DOJ interfered with the investigation into Hunter Biden. Whistleblowers from the IRS, who were part of the investigation, have informed members of Congress that Hunter Biden received “preferential treatment” from both the IRS and the DOJ.
One whistleblower, Gary Shapley, revealed that DOJ assistant U.S. attorney Lesley Wolf prevented investigators from accessing a laptop computer that was verified as belonging to Hunter Biden. Shapley expressed his concern that not all the available evidence was reviewed by agents or prosecutors.
When questioned about these allegations, the DOJ declined to comment.
President Biden Remains Silent
President Biden, prior to the dinner, refused to answer any questions regarding his son’s case or the existence of a two-tiered justice system in the United States.
It is worth noting that former President Donald Trump is currently facing charges for allegedly violating multiple laws, including holding onto classified documents beyond his presidency and obstructing the investigation into the matter. Trump has pleaded not guilty and maintains his innocence.
Furthermore, one whistleblower has claimed that Hunter Biden conducted business with a Chinese businessman while his father was present, contradicting the president’s previous statements that he never discussed business dealings with his son. The whistleblowers also revealed that U.S. Attorney David Weiss attempted to bring charges against Hunter Biden in both Washington and California in 2022 but was denied on both occasions.
Despite these revelations, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland has not commented on the accusations of interference.
