Former CIA Director Petraeus warns Prigozhin: Watch out near open windows, you lost Wagner Group.
Former CIA Director: Prigozhin Loses Control of Wagner Group, Faces Assassination Attempts
During a captivating interview on Sunday, former CIA Director David Petraeus revealed a stunning development in the ongoing power struggle within Russia. Petraeus disclosed that Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the notorious Wagner group, has lost control of his forces after a daring rebellion against the Russian government over the weekend. The consequences of this uprising have left Prigozhin vulnerable to potential assassination attempts.
Petraeus, speaking with CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union,” emphasized that the recent events signify a significant weakening of President Putin and his government. The rebellion has shaken the foundations of the Russian regime, leaving Putin more vulnerable than ever during his 23-year rule.
While Prigozhin managed to secure a deal with the president of Belarus, potentially safeguarding his life for now, he has lost control over the Wagner group. Petraeus warned that Prigozhin should exercise extreme caution, especially around open windows in his new surroundings in Belarus.
“Clearly, Prigozhin lost his nerve,” Petraeus stated. “He was within a stone’s throw of Moscow’s outskirts, where defensive preparations were underway. Unfortunately for him, this rebellion failed to generate the support he had hoped for.”
Petraeus also drew parallels to historical figures, stating, “We have always wondered who would strike a blow at the czar. Now we know, even though he ultimately failed. It brings to mind Napoleon’s advice: if you start to take Vienna, take Vienna. Prigozhin lost his nerve and turned back. The future of the Wagner Group remains uncertain, as it is unclear how many members will sign contracts with the Ministry of Defense, which was the root cause of the conflict. Prigozhin’s control over this mercenary force, which he meticulously built over the years, is slipping away.”
